So let’s talk about your job.
Do you love it? Do you hate it? Is it your dream job? Or just a stopgap?
I want to challenge everybody today to look really hard at what they do all day (or all night) and figure out if it’s REALLY what you’re supposed to be doing.
For a while there, the economy was so bad, we were all just happy to have SOMEthing to pay the bills.
But the more clients I talk to, the more I realize how important it is to enjoy what we do for a living (or at least not hate it).
Your dream job is getting paid to do something you love to do anyway. Like I said in the video, I’ve had a few of those. I’ve also had the jobs that feel like they’re sucking the life out of you. I’ve even had dream jobs that turned into nightmares over time. Not good.
- What were you BORN to do?
Some of you know, but you haven’t told anybody. Some of you know, but you won’t even admit it to yourselves, because what good would that do? And some of you have no idea.
This is something we all NEED to know. Because whether you can do it for money or not, it absolutely HAS to be done.
If you have no idea, ask people you love and trust and know you well. I’m always watching my kids to see what makes their eyes sparkle to get a hint about what they may want to do in the future.
What is the one thing you do that you just WISH you could do all day long? That you lose track of time when you’re doing it? That may very well be what you were born to do.
- Do it anyway.
Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for a job offer. Start doing it, whatever it is. It may turn into a paying job one day and it may not. But the world needs us all doing that thing we were created to do, regardless of if it brings in a paycheck.
Do it on the side. Do it for free. Keep your heart alive and pumping. Get in the stream of people and ideas that you are interested in.
- Make a plan.
Want to change jobs? Work on an exit strategy. Get some help with your resume. Crunch some numbers.
Want to start something totally new? Crunch some more numbers. How much do you need to live on each month? How’s the old savings account looking? Talk to some experts in the field you’re interested in.
We spend most of our lives doing our jobs, whether it’s stay-at-home mom (toughest job ever) or CEO of a major corporation. The majority of our lives is spent doing that thing, so we’ve got to make it count.
If you’re doing what you know you’re supposed to be doing, good for you! Do it with everything you got!
If you know you’re not where you’re supposed to be, it’s time to start dreaming. It’s time to start making a plan.
And if you have no idea, well, there’s no time like the present to figure it out.
Head back over to my Facebook page and tell us about your job and what we can do to help.
See you there!
